| Bush Wins With Hispanic Votes
-- If He Wins
By Raoul Lowery Contreras
Well, well, the anti-immigrants, the anti-Mexicans, are proclaiming that George W. Bush failed in his Hispanic-oriented campaign for the Presidency. Oh, how wrong they are! Delightfully wrong. Stupidly wrong! UPI's Steven Sailer writes: "Bush's performance raises serious questions about the long-term ability of the Republican Party to win over Hispanic voters." His web site (vdare.com) mate, Peter Brimelow, British citizen, then Canadian citizen, now American citizen, and a viciously anti-immigrant writer, gleefully prints the exit voter statistics as proof that continued immigration into the US will eventually destroy the Republican Party. Wrong! First, California Mexican Americans voted for Bush by almost 50% over how they voted in the 1998 gubernatorial election. Secondly, the 35% of the national Hispanic vote Bush received was 25% higher than Bob Dole received in 1996. And, that's if we can accept as an honest percentage what we are told was the Bush percentage of the Hispanic vote. The national Hispanic vote Bush received almost matches that of Ronald Reagan, the most popular Republican ever among Hispanics. Of course, no one paid attention to the Hispanic vote in the Fifties when they undoubtedly voted in overwhelming numbers for Dwight David Eisenhower, under whom hundreds of thousands of Mexican Americans served in World War Two. Cuban Americans in Florida, for example, voted 79% for Bush, according to comments and observations in the MIAMI HERALD. In fact, 90,000 more of them voted for Bush than voted for Bob Dole. In case no one has noticed, as of this moment, George W. Bush has carried Florida, and the Presidency, by about 1000 votes, far less that the couple of hundred thousand Cuban Americans who voted for Bush. In case that isn't clear, Bush carried 79% of the Cuban American vote in Southeast Florida and that's 90,000 more than voted for the 1996 Republican candidate, Bob Dole, giving him enough votes to carry the state by 1000 votes - period. These were not "white" or Black, or Asian votes - these were and are Hispanic votes, period. In Texas, George W. Bush demolished the lies of Democrats and the Southwest Voter Registration Project (a far left wing Chicano outfit) who disputed the 49% of the Texas Hispanic vote he received in his reelection in 1998. They claim he only won 38% of the Hispanic vote in that year. Well, in his race for the Presidency, G.W. garnered 42% of the Texas Hispanic vote, destroying, if you will, the lies upon lies pushed by Democrats, the Southwest Voters Project and the Steven Sailer/Peter Brimelow Quinela. There is one interesting factor that the critics leave out and that is that the exit polls are wrong to begin with. Like the radical Chicano Southwest Voter Registration Project, the exit pollsters believe that Hispanics only live in Hispanic neighborhoods especially, as "Southwest" believes, in Barrios filled to the brim with working poor and poverty stricken Hispanics. Where do middle and upper class Hispanics live, in the Barrio? Are they reflected in the exit polls? No. That goes to the built in prejudices of pollsters who believe all Hispanics are poor or working poor. I guarantee that Hispanics who read this and agree with me most of the
time voted for George W. Bush in far greater percentages than the 28% he
allegedly received of the California Hispanic vote, or 35% nationally.
Try 70 to 80%, or more, of
Back to the Sailer/Brimelow "failure" of the Republican Party in this election. They are wrong. They predict the Republican Party is doomed to a perpetual minority status if more immigrants come into the US and the Republicans continue to "fail" among Hispanic voters. They are wrong. I repeat, they are wrong and scientific study backs me up. Moreover, look at the county by county election results and see how Bush carried all but 20 counties in Texas, winning in almost a hundred, including counties with substantial Mexican American votes. In California, Bush carried the heavily Mexican American counties in the Central Valley, including Fresno County. In Washington State, Bush carried the Yakima valley with its 100,000 Mexican Americans. Bush has made liars of many, many people. For example, a thorough academic study of Hispanics in my county concludes that a third of registered Republican Hispanics in this county are immigrants, thus, living proof there is a market among immigrants for the Republican Party. The anti-immigrant fanatics will have to find other lies to use. Hispanics will deliver big time for Republicans, in time. They did in Florida this time. Raoul hosts a Sunday talk show at 10:30 A.M.
