A bufoon congressman strikes again

Raoul Lowery Contreras
June 16, 2003

On September 9th, buffoon Republican Colorado congressman Tom Tancredo will make a fool of himself again.  He and others will smear honest, hardworking Mexicans who come, legally and illegally, to work in a worker-hungry country.

On that day, Tancredo will speak out on behalf of the “hundreds of thousands,” perhaps, “millions” of Americans who have been harmed by illegal aliens from Mexico. He will carry on about the handful of murders committed by illegals and attempt to make them sound like thousands.

He will talk about exploding crime rates in areas like California where illegals are concentrated, despite, of course, the truth that the California crime rate has fallen exponentially as the number of illegals grew mightily.

He will carry on about a handful of illegal alien “cop-killers” who have run off to Mexico where they can’t be arrested by U.S. authorities.  What he will not say is that any such criminal who runs off to Mexico can be arrested on a warrant issued by American authorities and tried in Mexico with American legal input.  Sure, they can’t get the death penalty in Mexico (like in Canada, Great Britain, Germany, etc.), nor can they be sentenced to more than 40 years, but to suggest they can get away with murder in the U.S. by running off to Mexico is a blatant lie.

He will stress the killing in Los Angeles of a deputy sheriff, the prime suspect of which is  a Mexican.  The Mexicans are waiting for an arrest warrant issued under our mutual felony treaty.  The Los Angeles District Attorney refuses to issue the warrant.  Tancredo won’t mention that.

He also won’t mention that a Houston jury just convicted three former federal Immigration officers of felony assault, civil rights violations and assorted other serious crimes they committed against an innocent Mexican who, by the way, died a year after the serious beating these three men inflicted.

Tancredo won’t mention this because he wants soldiers on the border to kill, not arrest illegals.

He and others will carry on about the “millions” of Americans who have been thrown out of work by illegals.  Those assertions are, of course, wrong.

Take my county, for example, a county where there are lots of illegals, for we are next door to Mexico.  How many American citizens in San Diego or Orange Counties (two of the ten largest counties in the country) aren’t working because of illegals?  None.

The State of California just announced that unemployment in San Diego is down to 4.1%.  Now, the federal Humphrey-Hawkins Employment Act defines “FULL EMPLOYMENT” as 4.00%.  VOILA!  We have full employment in San Diego, and also in Orange County, site of the largest Mexican American population percentage city in the country outside of San Antonio.

Unemployment has turned the corner and will go down for the foreseeable future.  Nonetheless, the illegals number as many as ten-million.  Why?  Jobs, not murder, not drug running and sales, not rape and pillage, jobs and jobs only.  Most reasonable students of immigration know this to be the true fact of illegal immigration.  Every academic study, even by anti-immigrant groups like the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), arrive at the same conclusion, the reason they come is jobs.

As for welfare, please.  Studies (including by the CIS) clearly show that most illegals are single men.  The only single men who collect welfare in California (General Relief) are non-Hispanic White males, period.

Women who do collect, usually collect on behalf of their American citizen children.

Tancredo, CIS, the Federation of Americans for Immigration  (FAIR), American Renaissance, the so-called “Emigration Party “ (with 66 people on its mailing list), the Carrying Capacity Network, the Ku Klux Klan, White Aryan Resistance (WAR) and Peter Brimelow, twice-immigrant (Canada and the U.S.) author and progenitor of VDARE.com, all decry the fact that illegals get jobs here and blame unemployment on them, but that is not true and they can’t get past emotional arguments because there are none.

So, as these folks have few legitimate arguments against illegals working here, they shift their arguments to crime.  They point to the 600-plus murders in Los Angeles and how many are “gang-related,” then, of course, point out that some illegals are in gangs, thus, they argue, illegal-alien-controlled gangs are on a record-setting murder spree. Wrong again!

A very large percentage of the LA murders are Black on Black gang related murders, not murder by illegals in Mexican gangs. It should be noted that California Hispanics outnumber California Blacks by almost 20-to-one.  In Los Angeles, almost ten-to-one is the ratio, thus one would expect that the murder rate would reflect the population’s racial breakdown. It doesn’t, but that doesn’t faze the Tancredo Lobby.  To them all murders in the USA are committed by illegals, as are all rapes, all drug running, all gang-related crime, all corruption, all slum-creation and all problems in the country that have always existed, even before the current crop of illegals were born.

We will hear all this on September 9th in Washington D.C. when Tom Tancredo and his challenged followers and groupies will gather to cry, whine and emote--in front of C-SPAN cameras, of course.

The question, thankfully is, will anyone listen?  Will suburban mothers who are able to work only because they can hire live-in “criadas” (nannies) to take care of their children while they climb their career ladders -- listen?

Will the busy suburban executive or professional with precious little time listen while he goes to the nearest Home Depot to hire a Mexican or two to take care of his yard?  Will the contractor who needs two or three laborers to dig ditches for one day only listen as he picks them up at a corner everyone knows about?

Will everyone who relishes the world’s lowest food prices listen?  Will, in fact, Tom Tancredo listen?  After all, illegal aliens were discovered remodeling his house last year.  Of course, Tancredo says he didn’t know they were illegal. He can’t tell the difference between legal and illegal, so he just rants. I’ll bet one thing, the work on his house was probably better and less expensive than if done by men named Jones, Smith or Tancredo.
